Overview
Duruhm Faer is the only true dwarven kingdom of Kataris, a realm whose influence stretches far beyond the mountains from which it first emerged.
At its heart lies Hrotmaerahn, the oldest and most revered dwarven hall in the known world. From this ancestral seat, Duruhm Faer has extended its reach across mountain ranges, dry riverlands, and even the open sea, a rare divergence from the more insular dwarven cultures found elsewhere.
To outsiders, Duruhm Faer is often difficult to categorise. It is at once a traditional dwarven stronghold and a far-reaching realm whose people have carried their customs into environments where dwarves are seldom expected.
Government
Duruhm Faer is ruled under a King, seated in Hrotmaerahn.
The High King’s authority extends across a network of halls, settlements, and territories, though governance is not uniformly centralised. Regional leaders, often drawn from influential clans or established lineages, oversee distant territories such as the southern riverlands and the Durvan Isles.
While Hrotmaerahn remains the symbolic and political core of the kingdom, its authority is maintained as much through tradition and shared identity as through direct control.
Society
Durvan society is defined by continuity, craft, and adaptation.
At its core, the culture of Hrotmaerahn reflects the oldest dwarven traditions: stonework, lineage, and the preservation of ancestral knowledge. However, unlike other dwarven cultures, these traditions have not remained confined to the mountains.
Across Duruhm Faer, dwarves have adapted to varied environments. Mountain Halls maintain ancient practices, riverland settlements focus on agriculture and trade, coastal communities and islanders embrace navigation, fishing and seafaring.
Economy
Duruhm Faer possesses a diverse and resilient economy, where raditional dwarven industries remain central.
However, the kingdom’s expansion has introduced additional economic pillars, like agriculture, maritime trade and shipbuilding.
The Durvan Isles including Vanulogryk, Vankyryk, Vanromyryk, Vanoðarryk, and Vanadhravok serve as important hubs for naval activity and whalers, connecting Duruhm Faer to distant markets.
Culture
Duruhm Faer represents the broadest expression of dwarven culture found anywhere in the world.
While the traditions of Hrotmaerahn remain deeply respected, they are not rigidly enforced across all regions. Instead, cultural identity is shaped by environment and necessity
Despite these differences, all Durvan people maintain strong ties to ancestry and craft. Even the most distant island settlement will trace its lineage back to Hrotmaerahn.
Religion
Religion in Duruhm Faer centers on the Dwarvish Pantheon and ancestral reverence .
Spiritual practice often takes place within halls, and is not usually defined by holy sites or temples.
Geography
Duruhm Faer lies largely within the rain shadow of the northern mountain ranges, resulting in a dry climate across much of the region.
The landscape is defined by arid highlands and rocky terrain, dry river valleys and coastal regions leading to the Durvan Isles
